Why it matters

Sideways scrolling is a small signal with a big cost: it makes the page feel broken and can hide the next action.

How it works

FixWeb renders the homepage and distinct representative templates at a 375 px phone viewport, compares the document width with the viewport, and records the ten largest visible offenders with selectors, labels, rectangles, and excess width.

Site impact

Fixed-width media, long words, tables, and code blocks can push the whole page sideways. The passive pass reports what was visible at the tested phone width; it does not claim to cover every breakpoint or interaction state.

How FixWeb tests for it

The phone pass uses a touch-enabled Android Chrome profile, records document and client widths, and inventories visible elements whose rectangles extend beyond the viewport.

How to improve

Use responsive widths, `max-width: 100%`, wrapping or scrolling containers for genuinely wide content, and a test at the narrowest supported breakpoint. Keep the primary action inside the viewport.

Run it on your own site
