Why it matters

Raw link counts hide the questions that matter: who links, why they link, how the profile changes, and whether competitors earn relevant coverage the site lacks.

How it works

When data is available, FixWeb reviews referring-domain quality and concentration, 12 to 24 month gains and losses, branded versus exact-match anchors, editorial and dofollow context, sponsored or UGC tagging, redirect chains, and domains shared by competitors. Search Console linking-site data can triangulate provider counts.

Site impact

A narrow or unstable profile can make visibility dependent on a few sources, while over-optimized anchors deserve investigation rather than automatic toxicity labels. Competitor gaps can reveal outreach targets, linkable assets, or content worth creating.

How FixWeb tests for it

Inbound links are not visible in a public page crawl. The evaluator requires the backlinks provider and uses Search Console where connected; without those sources, dimensions are reported not assessable. Crawl evidence contributes only the site's own outbound rel hygiene, a weak proxy that cannot describe inbound link types.

How to improve

Reclaim worthwhile lost links, investigate sudden spikes or drops, diversify relevant referring domains, and earn a natural mix of branded, URL, and descriptive anchors. Tag outbound sponsored and user-generated links correctly, then pursue shared competitor referrers with genuinely useful assets.
