How much does an SEO audit cost?

Only one survey we found asks buyers what they paid for an SEO audit: WebFX's. In it, 68% of businesses paid more than $500, and about one in nine paid $100 or less. The most common bracket, $501–$750, holds 22% of answers. We worked out the 68% from WebFX's own table.

Read it with two caveats. WebFX is an agency that sells audits, and it doesn't publish how it ran the survey. The page cites 250 US businesses, but every percentage in its table is a multiple of 1/116. So about 116 businesses answered this question.

Surveys of the people who sell SEO point the same way. They measure SEO projects in general, not audits alone:

  • SE Ranking asked 260 agencies, most of them small: 38% charge $500–$1,000 per project and 28% charge $1,000–$2,000. Its authors say the sample may be too small to be statistically significant.
  • Ahrefs polled 439 SEO providers. Freelancers' most common project fee is $101–$250; agencies' is $2,501–$5,000. Both groups most often bill $75–$100 an hour.

Price lists from individual sellers fit inside that spread. Search Commander charges $800 for a site of up to 25 pages and $1,500 for 26 to 999 pages, with two calls and a recorded walkthrough. SEO.co starts at $2,499 for sites under 1,000 indexed pages.

How much does an accessibility audit cost?

Accessibility audits have the clearest published prices. Accessible.org says most of its audits cost $1,250–$2,750. It charges $100–$250 per primary page or screen and $25–$100 per light page, for a fully manual review against WCAG 2.1 or 2.2 AA. Its pricing page is dated 25 July 2026.

  • DigitalA11Y puts each audit at $1,500–$5,000 (updated February 2026).
  • AudioEye's guide lists $1,000–$3,000 for 1–10 pages, $2,500–$7,000 for 10–30 and $5,000–$15,000 for 30–50 pages (March 2026). AudioEye sells accessibility tools, and the guide doesn't say where the ranges come from.

Auditors price a sample of representative pages and templates, not every URL. The work is slow because a person runs each page with a keyboard and a screen reader.

Keyboard and screen-reader testing is the part an automated scan can't do.

Automated tools catch part of the problem. On a GOV.UK test page with 143 planted failures, the best single tool found 37% of them, or 41% counting its prompts for manual checks, and all the tools together found 71% (2017). Deque measured issue volume across 13,000+ pages from 2,000+ of its audits and found automated tests covered 57% of issues (2021).

How much does a website speed audit cost?

We found no survey, only price lists, and they range widely. AlfaMedia charges a fixed $297 for Core Web Vitals on up to five templates, with a prioritised PDF. Speetals sells a one-off video audit for $1,500. At the top end, CSS Wizardry says most of its audit and consultancy engagements are five-figure projects.

How much does a UX or conversion audit cost?

Baymard Institute charges $3,400–$9,700 by scope for a 120-page report on a site's 40 most important UX improvements, delivered in 10–21 workdays. A Convert.com roundup puts a one-time conversion audit at $2,500 (low), $3,500 (average) and $4,500 (premium), without saying how it reached those figures.

Can you get all of it in one audit?

Few sellers offer one, and the two we found differ a lot in scope:

  • Pellmark charges a fixed £499 for eight areas across up to five pages, including manual keyboard and screen-reader checks.
  • Storey Creative charges $1,500 for up to 100 URLs, covering technical setup, SEO, AI search visibility and accessibility.

Don't add separate quotes together to estimate a full audit. The disciplines overlap, and nobody prices a bundle as the sum of its parts.

What a human audit gives you that a scan doesn't

  • Manual testing with a keyboard, a screen reader and real devices.
  • Judgement about which findings matter for your business, and in what order.
  • Your own data: Search Console, analytics, backlinks and competitors.
  • Calls and walkthroughs, and sometimes the fixes themselves.

An automated scan is good at a different job. It reads many pages in a real browser and checks them the same way every time. You can re-run it after every change to see whether a fix landed. It finds the mechanical problems, like a wrong canonical, a missing alt attribute or a slow page. That leaves the money you pay a person for the judgement.

How to spend an audit budget

  1. Run an automated scan first and fix what it finds.
  2. Pay a person for the parts that need judgement: an accessibility conformance review, SEO strategy, or UX research.
  3. Scan again after each release, so regressions don't wait for next year's audit.

How we got these numbers

We gathered published prices and surveys on 14 October 2026 in two independent research passes, then checked every figure on this page against its source. Vendor prices are list prices for one seller, not market averages. Currencies are as published. Where we computed a number from a source's table, such as the 68% and the 116 answers, the text says so.

Questions people ask

How much does an SEO audit cost for a small business?

Usually more than $500. In WebFX's survey of US businesses, 68% paid more than $500 for an SEO audit and the most common bracket was $501 to $750. Freelancers often charge less: in Ahrefs' survey of 439 SEO providers, the most common freelance project fee is $101 to $250.

Why does an accessibility audit cost more than an SEO audit?

A manual accessibility audit means a person tests each sampled page with a keyboard and a screen reader against WCAG. Accessible.org charges $100 to $250 per primary page, and most of its audits cost $1,250 to $2,750.

Is an automated website audit enough?

It finds the mechanical problems quickly and can be re-run after every change, but it cannot judge everything. In a GOV.UK test page with 143 planted accessibility failures, the best single tool found 37% of them and all the tools together found 71%. Conformance claims, strategy and user research still need a person.

What should a website audit include?

Crawlability and indexing, search snippets, structured data, page speed and Core Web Vitals, accessibility, mobile layout, forms and runtime errors, ending in a list of fixes sorted by impact.
